61 Welcomed

Do you think, asks the Sovereign Lord, that I like to see wicked people die?  Of course not!  I only want them to turn from their wicked ways and live.  Ezekiel 18:23

Look!  Here I stand at the door and knock.  If you hear me calling and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal as friends.  Revelation 3:20

The Spirit and the bride say “Come!”  And let him who hears say “Come!”  Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.  Revelation 22:17

There is good news.  It is that we don’t have to pay for our redemption.  Jesus already did!  Not only are we eternally redeemed, we also have sustenance for life.  We are invited to “take the free gift of the water of life.”  God welcomes us into His Kingdom!  He sent His Own Son to die for us.  The Gospel, redemption and salvation are all God’s ideas.  God thought up the whole plan of salvation.  He wants us to come to Him.  He offers to us His free gift of life.

God also invites those of us who hear to invite others.  He wants more and more people to come to the party in Heaven.  “Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:  ‘Hallelujah!  For our Lord God Almighty reigns.  Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory!  For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready.’” Revelation 19:6-7  Heaven is going to be a party!

Yes, we need to repent.  Yes, we need to obey.  And yes, God realizes that our obedience is not going to be perfect.  God wants to have relationship with us, not just that we follow a bunch of rules.  He welcomes us into His kingdom.

For many of us, this may seem too good to be true.  Even though we know the Gospel, we try to earn our place with God year after year.  It takes time to really let ourselves bask in the knowledge of God’s goodness.  Resistance towards trusting God tries to grip our hearts.  We hear the lies of the enemy constantly questioning God’s word.  “Did God really say…?” is his watchword. (Genesis 3:4)

Know that God welcomes us.  We need to believe in God’s promise of life.  We need to resist the enemy’s lies.  We need to learn to open our hearts to receiving His love.  This will take time.  If we struggle with receiving God’s love, we need to hold on to the fact that we will someday be able to freely receive His love.  I struggled with shame and self-hatred for many years, and I still do, but I also am experiencing His love.  I hear His call, “Come!”  He is calling us, “Come!  You are welcome to the party!”

Tasting His goodness,

Noah Woodrich
